Reading is as old as humanity. In pre-historic times , the man had to read and decode the "data" from nature to survive. Considering this simple truth, only one conclusion can be drawn , i.e., that reading is man's ability to receive and process information from the outside world. When obtaining information, one may be watching for a variety of clues to gather meaning: not only verbal or written information, but nonverbal behaviour as well. However, when considering reading, the first thing occurring to most people would probably be reading in order to receive information from the written word.
