CAN DO STATEMENTS “LONELY? READ A BOOK”

Congratulations on your listening comprehension excellent score. To maintain your listening skill at this level, you can still practice by watching online English videos, TV programmes without subtitles, if possible, referring to literature or/and films based on literary works.

Your listening comprehension seems to be good enough, but you can still improve it. You should repeat the listening tasks in this section for revision and to find out what kind of listening material is your weak point. You should go on to listen to recordings in English. You should choose the topics of your interest.

It seems that your listening comprehension skill still needs quite some work to be improved. First, you should find out what listening material and activities proved difficult to you. You should plan how, when and what you are going to listen to. You should start by repeating all the listening tasks in this section. Why not using some general strategies which would help you improve your listening comprehension skill? You should choose the topics similar to the ones in this section or the ones you are interested in. You should be patient and keep trying.

You obviously know quite well what a good writing skill and creativity is when it comes to literature. So why not write a short story, a fairy tale, a fable or even a poem? A young, gifted author on the horizon?

You seem to be making progress in writing. By rewriting the tasks of these units, you may get a clearer picture what your weak points are. If you have read a literary text, write questions about it, a summary , a brief description of a book or a blurb. You should write a bio of your favourite author or a classmate who is “literary-minded”. There are endless opportunities to write and improve your writing skill. But whatever you write, you should not forget to ask someone for correction.

Your poor score says you are still struggling with your weak writing skill. As usual, you should start rewriting tasks for this set of units, but make sure you understand the purpose of each task. You should practise making questions and answers, writing presentations, stories, etc. as suggested in the fifth unit. Do you have a favourite author? Write his/her personal or bio based on his personal profile and/or short descriptions of his works based on a book profile. You should not forget to ask someone for feedback.

It seems you are familiar with most of the reading strategies and your reading and writing skills are good. Congratulations. Stay curious and creative. You are very confident when using libraries (e-libraries too) for your purposes, and making what-to-do lists for events. Keep up the good work.

You seem to know how to make patchwork posters and create what-to-do lists. Do not give up visiting the library and reading books, on the contrary, use them even more often, to improve your reading and writing skills and build your vocabulary, which makes you even a faster and more efficient reader and learner.

You should know how to use the services of both a “brick and mortar” and a digital library. Ask your school librarian or language teacher(s) for help, so as not to get lost in so much information. As for reading strategies, it will take some time at the beginning, but it’s worth practising.
