Romeo and Juliet
Young Paris, asks Juliet's father, Capulet for permission to marry her. Capulet Invites Paris to a party to ask Juliet himself. Romeo, a Montague, secretly comes to the party, hoping to see Rosaline, the girl he admired. Instead, he sees Juliet and they fall in love. Finding out, who Romeo was, makes Juliet sad. Because the Capulets and the Montagues hate each other Romeo and Juliet decide to marry secretly. Just before their wedding Romeo gets into a fight with Juliet's cousin Tybalt, and kills him. To save his life from being sentenced for murder and avoid certain death, Romeo escapes immediately after the marriage.
Not knowing Juliet is already married, her parents force her to marry Paris. At first, she refuses, but later she accepts because has a plan. She wants to fake her death and escape with Romeo. The night before her wedding to Paris, Juliet takes a sleeping potion that makes her look dead.
She sends a message to Romeo, telling him about the plan, but the messenger comes too late. Romeo has already left, thinking Juliet has died. He finds her in the tomb, and kills himself just before Juliet wakes up. When Juliet finds Romeo dead, she kills herself.
Standing over the bodies of their children, the two families make peace.
Choose one of the topics and write a text about it:
A. Imagine you are Romeo/Juliet/Julija/Waterman. Write a letter to your friend. In the letter, describe what has happened to you and describe your feelings.
B. Write a modern time version of either Romeo and Juliet or The Waterman.
C. Compare the two stories in more details. Which story do you find more appealing? Explain your opinion.
