Časa Past Simple in Past Continuous se velikokrat uporabljata skupaj:
1 Kadar govorimo o dejanju, ki je potekalo (Past Continuous) in ga je prekinilo neko drugo dejanje (past Simple):
He was skiing when he fell and hurt his leg.
2 Kadar govorimo o dveh dejanjih v preteklosti, ki sta se odvijali istočasno (Past Continuous v obeh primerih):
While she was reading, he was watching television.
