The Past Continuos Tense
When we want to say that a longer action was interrupted by a shorter one, we use the Past Continuous Tense. See the ‘Grammar Log.’
The person in the photo is stressed because something negative has
happened. Talk in pairs and say what could be the reason for the stress.
Use one of the phrases below.
The person could/may/might be. . .
Perhaps the person has/is. . .
Have you ever lost any data from your computer? Or any contacts from your electronic address books? Tell your partner about it and use the Past Continuous to explain what you were doing, or what was happening when you lost the data. You can use structures similar to these:
I was watching. . . when by accident I switched off. . .
I was trying to. . . when my brother. . .
Backing up files on your computer keeps your files safe. How about your personal safety when communicating online? What are some possible dangers of using social networking websites?
