What if you were blind and you couldn’t see the interesting sights you visited? In this case, you have to focus on the smell, the sounds and the taste you experienced at a certain place. How would you describe your best holiday to your friend if you had to only focus on these three senses? Work in pairs.

EXAMPLE

A: What sounds enhanced your stay in Croatia?
B: There were several different magical sounds. The sound of waves crashing the shore, the rustling summer breeze, and the endless chirping of crickets. In the evenings, we sat on the terrace and enjoyed the distant soft tunes of Dalmatian song sang by a local band.
A: What about the smell?
B: I enjoyed the smell of rosemary, basil, garlic, and parsley. I even liked the smell of fish, mussels, and other seafood on the fish market, but I mustn’t even think of the terrible smell of the toilets from the bar where we once had a cappuccino.
A: Smell and taste often go hand in hand. Can you tell me something about the taste of the Mediterranean, too?
B: Mmmmm. . .  I’ll always remember the distinct taste of grilled fish, spooned over with lots of smooth olive oil, and sprinkled with parsley. We drank local wine at dinner, but I didn’t enjoy it much because it was too bitter.
